Vehicle Coverage

In a Phoenix personal injury case, an insurance carrier is only liable for damages of the insured when the vehicle the insured was driven while causing the accident was insured.

A vehicle named in the policy itself is obviously covered in a Phoenix personal injury liability case, however, where the named insured is driving another unnamed vehicle, the insurer must provide coverage as well.

In addition, any car, utility vehicle or other vehicle with which the named insured switches with a named vehicle is also covered. In some instances, however, the policy holder must notify the insurance company within 30 days of the change in vehicle for coverage to continue.

For a temporary vehicle such as a rental or temporary replacement, normal coverage extents to any car not owned by the named insured. This even extends to members of the named insured household.

Vehicles larger than a passenger car are covered as well, up to a point. Pickups, flatbeds or panel trucks to a specified load rate are typically covered. Over the specified limit trucks must be listed on the policy of the named insured to be covered. Utility vehicles used for business and motorcycles are not covered in a typical named insured policy.
